Stellar Steam Project - Making a Table

On Wednesdays, since half our hub is at tech in the mornings, we often do Science projects, and sometimes STEAM projects. STEAM stands for Science Technology Engineering Arts Maths. So far this is the second STEAM project we've done, the first being able to drop an egg without it breaking using very limited materials. Ours failed horribly. For this one, it failed even worse, because we didn't even get to finish.

The instructions were, using only 10 sheets of newspaper and 1 meter of cellotape, to create a structure 15cm or over above the ground that could hold at least 1 specific book.

At the moment, I don't have the images for it, but here's what we did :

Marvelous Matariki Art

For a while now we've been working on some art for the Maori New Year and to represent the Matariki stars.

We did this using foam printmaking, where we drew into the foam, covered it in paint and stamped it on a piece of paper. You had to be very careful when drawing into the foam in a pen or pencil, because every mark and dent would show up in your actual art.

Step 1 : Draw some mountains in reverse on the bottom of a blank piece of paper. Try to keep it in around a third of the paper, we used A4.

Step 2 : Draw dots where the Matariki stars would go, but make sure to reverse where the stars are so when we print it it'll be the right way 'round.

Step 3 : Add swirls around where the stars are, connecting a few of them. This can be hard to do but ends up looking really cool!

Step 4 : Get a piece of foam the same size as your planning paper (so, for us, A4) and transfer the design onto it with a pen or pencil. Be very careful not to dent it or break the foam, and make sure your plan is one you're happy with.

Step 5 : Once you're done drawing, roll some paint onto the foam. Make sure to put on a lot of paint so your design isn't patchy and looks nice and clear. (My design is pretty patchy, but it's the nicest one I made)

Step 6 : If you want to make another one, just run the foam under water (you'll probably need to use your hands aswell) until the paint is off, dry it, and paint again.

This is my one, it's not the best and I haven't done the frame yet, but I think it looks pretty good!

Amazing Aladdin Storyboard!

For a while we've been practicing our play: Aladdin. Since obviously not everyone is in every scene, while we aren't working on dances or lines we have tasks to do that involve Aladdin. This task was to Storyboard a scene that we're in. Since I voice the Cave Of Wonders, I decided to do the scene inside the cave itself where Aladdin finds the lamp - specifically the line "There's a lamp in here, but it's not much to look at!"

Stellar Science

On Wednesdays since half the class has tech at a time, we now get to do Science one group at a time. This week, we had to drop an egg from about 3 1/2 meters in the air without it breaking. We had limited resources and worked in groups in 5-6.

Awesome Aladdin Pixel Art!

For our school play, we're doing Aladdin! My role is the voice of the Cave of Wonders, where Aladdin finds the lamp. When we're not practicing our dances we have tasks to do. One of these tasks is to make pixel art of our favourite Aladdin character. Mine is Rajah the tiger, so I made this!

Wonderful Weather Scratch Project

In school we've been learning a lot about Te Reo Māori and the language and history surrounding our country and recently we've had to make an animation on Scratch about the weather - more specifically, we had to use the Māori names for everything and represent what they mean. This is my project, I used my two characters named Herb/Herbert and Toast/Toastie. I've used them in a lot of other posts.

I found this task pretty easy even though it took awhile. I've been using Scratch on my old account French-Bulldog-Love for about 3 years and 8 months so I know a lot about it.

Terrific Treaty of Waitangi!

Recently for school we've been learning a lot about Waitangi day.

After learning all about the history of it, we were challenged to use a website named Voki to represent how either a British person or a Māori person could have been feeling about what was happening to them. I decided to take it from the Māori point of view because I thought it would be more interesting considering how different the views could have been.

This is my Voki, I edited on subtitles using a premium version of Screencast-o-matic.
